Mir Alam Tank to be major tourist attraction

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday inspected ongoing works at Mir Alam Tank as part of the state government's plan to develop it as a major tourist attraction in Hyderabad. During the inspection, Reddy reviewed the works and directed officials to develop the area with distinctive, world-class designs and tourist-friendly amenities, the Telangana CMO said in a post on X.

He said the development should offer a distinctive tourism experience while improving the environment and infrastructure around the tank. He directed officials to create a vibrant tourism destination befitting the tank's proximity to Hyderabad's international airport.

Travelling around the tank in an open-top jeep, Reddy inspected the ongoing works and reviewed the construction of a suspension bridge across the tank. He examined plans displayed at a photo exhibition and offered suggestions to enhance the overall development.

Reddy directed officials to complete the works within the stipulated timeline, prevent sewage from entering the tank and widen the nala to ensure the smooth flow of floodwater into the Musi River, a statement said.

He directed officials to explore facilities for water sports and other tourist activities and develop the islands within the tank attractively.

Senior officials from the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and municipal authorities participated in the inspection, it added.

Long pending problem

Every year when the city witnesses heavy rain, the nearby Nehru Zoological Park gets flooded. The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructed officials to take robust measures to prevent sewage from flowing into the Mir Alam Tank and suggested widening the drainage channels (nalas) to ensure the smooth flow of floodwater from the lake into the Musi River.
