Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) conducted a special weekend drive against drunk driving, apprehending 296 offenders across the city. Two-wheelers topped the list with 231 cases, followed by four-wheelers at 47, three-wheelers at 17, and one heavy vehicle. Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) analysis revealed that 259 offenders had levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 26 between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 11 between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All offenders will be produced before the Hon’ble Court.
Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence is a serious offence. Anyone causing a fatal accident while inebriated can be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, carrying a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
In the past week (Jan 19–24), courts disposed of 215 drunk driving cases: 5 offenders received fine and jail, 8 received fine and social service, while 202 were fined only.
