Renowned ophthalmologist and poet Dr. Pamu Nirmala Jyothi has been conferred the Akshara Praveena National Award in recognition of her contributions to literature and cultural creativity and for achievements in the medical field.
The award was presented at a special ceremony held at the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce Auditorium, jointly organised by the National Academy of Book Records, the Telugu Association of the Academy, the Godavari Social and Cultural Association, and Sri Sri Kala Vedika. The award was presented under the leadership of Sri Sri Kala Vedika National President G. Eshwari Bhushanam, with prominent literary figures Kavoori Srinivasa Sharma, Enugu Sivaram Prasad, Kancharla Srinivasa Rao, and Katthi Mandi Pratap participating in the programme.
Dr. Nirmala Jyothi is the granddaughter of Pamu Ram Murthy, a noted translator of the speeches of freedom fighters Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, whose work played a key role in making their ideas accessible to Telugu-speaking people.
