Durgam Cheruvu Lake to get major tourist makeover

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has called for the speedy development of Durgam Cheruvu Lake into a key tourist destination in Telangana. During a site visit on Wednesday, he stressed the importance of completing lake protection and beautification works without delay.

The commissioner directed authorities to prevent sewage from entering the lake and maintain water levels below the FTL to protect nearby colonies from flooding during heavy rains. He also instructed the Lakes Department and SNDP to accelerate both protection and development activities.

Under his guidance, Raheja IT Park Pvt. Ltd. has stepped in under its CSR program to fund the lake’s development and upkeep for the next two years. Plans include fencing, regular cleaning, planting aquatic vegetation, removal of floating waste, and construction of walking and cycling tracks. Landscaping and greenery improvements are also planned to enhance visitor experience.

The inspection was attended by HMWS&SB Executive Director Mayank Mittal, Sherilingampally Zonal Commissioner Hemant Borakde, GHMC SE Shankar Naik, Raheja Group representative Balaraju, GHMC EE Shireesh, CGM (STP) Padmaja, and Lakes Department Deputy Executive Engineer Jagadish.
