Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has strongly criticized former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, holding him responsible for the electricity tariff hikes and the collapse of the state’s power sector.
Minister Ravi Kumar clarified that the coalition government has not increased electricity charges since coming to power, attributing the current burden to decisions made during Jagan’s tenure. He highlighted that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) handed over a power-surplus state in 2019, but under Jagan's leadership, the state suffered a loss of Rs. 1.20 lakh crore in the power sector and an electricity burden of Rs. 35,000 crore on citizens.
The Minister pointed out that Jagan’s cancellation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) led to the huge loss of renewable energy, damaging investor confidence. Foreign bankers and investors filed complaints with the central government, forcing the state to pay penalties despite not using the electricity. Additionally, Jagan’s government purchased electricity at inflated rates to favor associates, further worsening the situation.
Minister Ravi Kumar also accused Jagan of supplying substandard coal to the Krishnapatnam power plant, causing inefficiency and losses. He assured an inquiry into these irregularities and vowed accountability for those involved.

Minister Ravi Kumar assured the public that the current government is working to rectify the damage, stabilize the power sector, and ensure no additional burden on citizens. He emphasized that YSRCP’s political theatrics have lost credibility among the people.
