EPDC seeks to promote organic farming across the country

The Environment Protection and Development Council (EPDC) on Sunday appealed to the Union Minister of Agriculture to take immediate action in promoting natural and organic farming across the country. In a memorandum submitted by the Council, they emphasized the urgent need to transition from chemical-based agriculture to eco-friendly and health-conscious farming practices. Speaking on this ocassion Dr. Komatireddy Gopal Reddy, National Advisor, and S.C.H. Rangaiah, President, highlighted the detrimental impact of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on soil health, environment, and public well-being.

Some of their appeals include 100% subsidy on all inputs required for natural and organic farming, including organic manures, extensive training programs to empower farmers with technical knowledge.guaranteed marketing support through dedicated organic markets, online platforms, and government procurement centers. They also sought a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for organic produce and a certification process to encourage small and marginal farmers. 

The Council said that  these measures will not only improve farmers’ income and food quality but also contribute to long-term environmental conservation and reduce public healthcare burdens by minimizing chemically induced diseases. Dr. Gopal Reddy reiterated that “This is not just a change in farming techniques – it is a national movement to safeguard our soil, water, biodiversity, and the health of future generations.”
