GHMC approves key drainage, parking and civic projects

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee, chaired by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, met on Saturday at the GHMC Command Control Room and approved a series of major civic projects and administrative matters. The committee sanctioned nine agenda items and four table items, covering infrastructure development, maintenance contracts, and financial approvals.

Key approvals included construction of a Rs 6 crore box drain from Kummari Kunta Cheruvu to Raghavendra Colony in LB Nagar Zone, and a separate SWD RCC box drain from Nagol Cheruvu to Venkataraman Colony at a cost of Rs 5 crore. The committee also approved revised estimates for the CRM Phase II project covering 1,142.54 km (2025–2030) with an estimated cost of Rs 2,828 crore and recommended it to the state government.

Other infrastructure approvals included extending interest for a sports arena under the Balanagar Flyover, with an annual rental of Rs 1,35,550, and the Charminar multi-level parking project under the DBFOT model for 15 years, with a possible five-year extension based on performance. The committee also approved the continuation of LED streetlight and CCMS maintenance contracts, including new installations, estimated at Rs 897 crore including GST, and authorized tendering.

Road development in Banjara Hills, stormwater drainage in Sherilingampally Zone, and allocation of fish market stalls at Goshamahal Circle were also cleared.

Administrative approvals included promotions for senior assistants in the GHMC Health Section and release of July’s financial statements. The session was attended by GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, standing committee members, additional and zonal commissioners, CE officials, and other departmental heads, ensuring thorough review and approval of all proposed projects.

These approvals mark a significant step in enhancing civic infrastructure, improving drainage, parking facilities, and urban services across Hyderabad, aligning with GHMC’s ongoing modernization efforts.
