23-09-2025 12:00:00 AM

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed all Zonal Commissioners (ZCs) and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to strictly prohibit manual scavenging in drains across the city. He stressed that sanitation works must be carried out only through mechanized methods under safe working conditions.

The Commissioner instructed that garbage clearance and GVP (Garbage Vulnerable Points) operations should be closely monitored by the concerned DCs and ZCs. To strengthen sanitation efforts, he ordered the formation of special dedicated teams in every zone for effective management.

Karnan made it clear that any lapses in sanitation or violations of safety protocols would invite strict action. He emphasized that the corporation places the highest priority on public health and worker safety, warning that negligence in sanitation management will not be tolerated.

By reinforcing GHMC’s stance on zero tolerance towards manual scavenging, the Commissioner underlined the civic body’s commitment to modern, safe, and efficient sanitation practices in the city.
