State Housing and Information and Civil Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said on Sunday that the state government is taking steps to further reduce the power tariff in the coming days. Addressing a press conference at the camp office in Nuziveedu, Minister Parthasarathy said that the government is committed to the promise that the tariff will not be and made it clear that the CM is taking steps to reduce the electricity tariffs.

He remarked that the government, which is doing good to the people, has reduced the burden of electricity bills of Rs 4789 crore under “true down” charges. Minister  Parthasarathy accused the YSRCP  government of mismanagement, claiming it rejected cost-effective solar and wind power agreements at Rs 2.49 per signed by the TDP government due to "biased policies."

Instead, he said, the YSRCP government signed deals in the open market at higher rates of Rs 5.19 to Rs 5.50 per unit, ultimately passing the increased burden onto the public through "true-up" charges. Minister Parthasarathy noted that the government is pursuing agreements for up to 80 gigawatts of solar, wind, and bio-energy at lower costs.

Additionally, initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana are providing solar units to the poor, with 100% subsidy for SC/ST beneficiaries and an extra Rs 50,000 subsidy for BC families, he stated. Beyond the power sector, the minister outlined broader development efforts, including attracting massive investments from abroad to boost industry, tourism, and software sectors, which he said will create job opportunities for lakhs of youth.
