In a major step for new born healthcare, the National Neonatology Forum (NNF), India, conducted the country’s first National Neonatal Transport Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Hyderabad. Organised by the NNF Telangana State Chapter, the initiative aims to strengthen neonatal transport systems through standardised training and faculty development.
The programme brought together 60 doctors from across India, creating the first national platform dedicated to preparing future trainers in neonatal transport. Participants underwent intensive training to build a nationwide network of faculty who will conduct regional programmes to improve the safety and quality of neonatal transfers.
The initiative was led by Dr. Lalan Bharati, NNF President; Dr. Amit Upadhyaya, Secretary; Dr. Srinivasan, Chairperson, National Neonatal Transport Programme; Dr. Dinesh Chirla, National Advisor; Dr. Amit Gupta, International Advisor; Dr. Nirmala, President, NNF Telangana State Chapter; and Dr. Vijayanand Jamalpuri, National Coordinator. Training included interactive lectures, simulation exercises, skill stations, transport equipment demonstrations, ambulance orientation, communication training and debriefing sessions.
Faculty members guided participants on evidence-based neonatal transport practices and teaching methods. Organisers said safe neonatal transport is a vital extension of neonatal intensive care. The trained faculty are expected to conduct workshops across the country, helping establish a sustainable neonatal transport education network and improve newborn outcomes.
