Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency(HYDRAA) Commissioner Ranganath clarified on Saturday in a pressmeet that it would become more aggressive in the new year. He said that ground work is being done on the boundaries of the lakes and that HYDRAA will be active as soon as there is clarity about the boundaries.
He clarified that the lakes will be developed and simultaneously illegal structures will be demolished after the FTL is determined. He said that 15 HYDRAA teams are ready for this. HYDRAA was formed on July 19, 2024 and awareness on FTL and illegal structures has increased, he said.
HYDRAA will announce its 5-month work schedule and next year's activities. He clarified that within the ORR, a range of 2050 kilometers and similarly 33 percent of Telangana will fall under HYDRAA. He reminded that 200 acres of land is already protected.
He said that so far, 8 lakes and 12 parks have been saved. Ranganath said that awareness among the people about FTL and buffer zones has increased. It was announced that a HYDRAA police station will be set up soon.
Ranganath said that the boundaries of 1025 new lakes are being established. He said that an FM radio will be started in Hyderabad to disseminate information about HYDRAA. He said that illegal structures are being identified through satellite images before and after July 19th.
72 teams are being formed in Disaster Response Force(DRF). He said that DRF will work in the limits of Outer Ring Road(ORR). Ranganath condemned the misinformation being spread about the project hydraa.
"It has been almost 5 months since Hydraa was formed. With five months of experience, we have prepared a route map for next year. Hydraa has a scope up to ORR. The state government has specially allocated officers under the GHMC Act. We will determine FTL in 1095 tanks next year. We will determine FTL with technology and data. It is our responsibility to make FTL transparent. We are taking high-resolution data with satellite images.
We are also taking photos taken with aerial drones from 2006 to 2023 for FTL determination. The reasons for the change in FTL are clear. FTL determination is done using scientific methods. "We are taking up the study done by Kirloskar Company on drains. 5800 complaints have been received by HYDRAA. Complaints are coming from 27 civic bodies regarding unauthorized constructions," Ranganath said.
"We also have authority over 27 municipalities. We are identifying encroachments through satellite images. We have also focused on dumping of construction waste. We will conduct a geo-fencing survey in 2025. We have sent proposals to the government for the restoration of 12 tanks.
We will strengthen the DRF center in Nagole. Another Doppler weather radar will come to the city soon. We are setting up a team in HYDRAA to analyze weather data. We are trying to get an FM channel soon.
