The Jharkhand government on Tuesday presented a Rs 1.58 lakh crore budget for the 2026-27 financial year in the Assembly, marking a 9 per cent increase over the current fiscal’s Rs 1.45 lakh crore outlay. Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said the “Abua Dishom” budget aims to ensure inclusive growth, with a strong focus on the poor, women, farmers and tribal communities.
Of the total allocation, Rs 67,460 crore has been earmarked for the social sector, Rs 59,044 crore for the economic sector, and Rs 32,055 crore for the general sector. Revenue expenditure is pegged at Rs 1.20 lakh crore, up 9.2 per cent, while capital expenditure stands at Rs 37,708 crore, an 8.5 per cent rise.
A new Mahila Khushhali Yojana has been introduced for women engaged in agriculture with an allocation of Rs 25 crore. The government also proposed opening 100 new CM Schools of Excellence and setting up Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Chatra district. In the first phase, 12 job-oriented colleges will be established across seven districts.
Under the Maiya Samman Yojana, Rs 14,066 crore has been allocated to provide Rs 2,500 per month as financial assistance to women.
The fiscal deficit for 2026-27 is estimated at Rs 13,595.96 crore, or 2.18 per cent of GSDP. The state projects a growth rate of 10.03 per cent at current prices next fiscal and aims to double its GSDP over the next five years.
