In a major escalation of internal strife within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), resigned from the party and as MLC. Her decision came a day after being suspended for alleged anti-party activities, deepening the crisis in the KCR-led party.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Kavitha accused her cousins—senior BRS leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar—of plotting to divide the Kalvakuntla family and weaken the party. She alleged they are colluding with Congress Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and acting with malicious intent.
Kavitha accused Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar of deep-rooted corruption, especially in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. She questioned Harish Rao’s wealth and claimed he used illicit funds to control MLAs, fund campaigns, and conspire against leaders like Jagga Reddy, Eatala Rajender, Mynampally Hanmantha Rao, and Vijayashanti.
She alleged Santosh Kumar misused the Haritha Haram initiative for self-promotion, was involved in villa projects in Mokila, and was linked to a sand lorry accident in Sircilla that led to police torture of seven youths.
Kavitha claimed Revanth Reddy and Harish Rao plotted against her family while traveling together. She questioned why Revanth filed cases only against her family, KTR, and KCR—but not Harish Rao, who was Irrigation Minister during the Kaleshwaram project. She alleged both cousins are working to destroy her family and party.
Highlighting her 20-year role in Telangana’s statehood movement since age 27, Kavitha denied anti-party activity. Since her release on November 23, 2024, she said she has championed Dalits, backward classes, women, Gurukul schools, BC reservations, pensions, and flood relief. She lamented being ignored by KTR for 103 days despite internal propaganda against her.
“Golden Telangana means welfare for all, not wealth for Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar,” she said, urging KCR to sideline them. She ruled out joining or forming another party immediately, saying future decisions will reflect Telangana’s interests after consultations.
BRS suspended her for violating party principles and removed her as TBGKS honorary president. She warned that KCR and KTR may also be targeted as cases mount against them, while her cousins enjoy Congress protection.Telangana Jagruthi leaders submitted her resignation from the MLC post and BRS membership to the Legislative Council Chairman and party leadership.
Revanth Rejects Allegations
CM Revanth Reddy denied Kavitha’s claims. Speaking at a Mahabubnagar event, Reddy dismissed these claims as baseless, questioning why he would back "rejected" leaders and emphasizing his commitment to leading Telangana’s progress from the forefront.
