A seven-year-old girl was rescued from alleged child labour and abuse in Palavaram village of Ananthagiri mandal in Suryapet district after local youths alerted Child Helpline 1098.
The minor, identified as Subbulu, was found grazing ducks in agricultural fields on the village outskirts. Acting swiftly, officials from ICDS, Child Protection authorities and an NGO intervened and took the child into safe custody. Legal action has been initiated against the employer, identified as Srikanth.
Officials said the girl revealed she was frequently beaten with sticks and forced to work continuously throughout the day. She was made to clean the house and perform labour-intensive chores under harsh conditions. Authorities also noticed visible wounds on her body during the rescue.
The child, reportedly left behind by her parents, expressed a strong desire to attend school and continue her studies. Officials credited the timely alert by villagers for the rescue and stressed the need for greater awareness to prevent child labour and abuse in rural areas.
