Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, announced Monday that there are currently "no ties, direct or indirect," between Islamabad and Kabul, following a deadly, unprovoked attack from the Afghan side over the weekend. He described the situation as a hostile "stalemate," warning that hostilities could resume at any time.

Pakistan's military reported that the clashes, which began late Saturday night, resulted in the martyrdom of 23 Pakistani troops and injuries to 29 others.

In response, Pakistani forces targeted terrorist hideouts and training camps, claiming to have neutralized over 200 Taliban and affiliated terrorists and extensively damaging their infrastructure.

Asif firmly rejected the possibility of dialogue under threat, stating Pakistan’s military response was a natural right following an attack. He accused Afghanistan of harboring multiple terrorist organisations, including ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the TTP, and pointed to the presence of TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud in Afghan territory. Islamabad continues to demand that Kabul stop sheltering the TTP.
