Deputy Chief Minister and Forest and Environment Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday visited the kumki Elephant Training Centre, which has been specially brought to Andhra Pradesh from Karnataka to protect crops and humans from elephant attacks. He visited the training centre at Musalamadugu in Palamaneru constituency of Chittoor district and enquired about the training and conservation of elephants.
Four kumki elephants brought from Karnataka and three kumkis, which were earlier at the same training centre are undergoing special training. The officials explained the techniques displayed by kumki elephants in the training and the recent operations. The live demonstration by the kumki elephants on how to control the mob elephants when there is a conflict between humans and elephants was impressive.
The mahouts showed Pawan Kalyan how the elephants suppress their anger by giving them a special intoxication when they get out of control. The intoxicating injection gun was keenly observed. On this occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister himself fed jaggery to the elephants. Appreciating their performance, he presented his own money as a prize of Rs. 50,000.
Later, Pawan Kalyan inaugurated a new elephant camp at Musalamadugu under the Forest Department. The foundation stone of the project was unveiled. He also laid the foundation stone of the Gajaramam Nagar Vanam to be set up at the elephant camp. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a solar powered suspended forest elephant fence.
Miyawaki type of plantation launched
Pawan Kalyan launched a Miyawaki type plantation at the Musalamadugu kunki elephant training center. The plantation has been set up in an area of 250 square meters. Pawan Kalyan started this dense afforestation program by planting a Amla sapling. He enquired from the forest officials when the shrubs would be planted.
