Noted writer Penugonda Lakshminarayana has been conferred with the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for his work ‘Deepika’, a collection of progressive essays. The announcement has been met with widespread acclaim, recognizing Lakshminarayana’s contribution to Telugu literature and his decades-long dedication to progressive writing.
Currently serving as the National President of the Progressive Writers’ Association (Abhyudaya Rachayitala Sangham), Lakshminarayana hails from Cheruvukommupalem village in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. With over 46 years of active involvement in the literary and cultural spheres, he has played a pivotal role in fostering progressive thought and shaping critical discourse within Telugu literature.
Lakshminarayana, a resident of Guntur, is also a practicing lawyer. He has been actively involved with the Progressive Writers' Association since 1972, holding various district, state, and national-level positions. In 2023, he made history by becoming the first Telugu writer to be elected as the national president of the association. His literary journey began in 1972 with the poem “Samidhi”.
Penugonda Lakshminarayana has held various leadership positions in the Andhra Pradesh Progressive Writers’ Association, making significant contributions to the literary movement. Over the years, he has authored several critical works and has served as the editor for numerous short story anthologies.
