A retired Army jawan displayed exceptional courage by foiling a chain snatching attempt in Amberpet and was later honoured by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.
The incident occurred on April 14 near an Irani hotel bus stop when the accused tried to snatch a gold chain from Ch. Ramudu as he was getting down from a bus. Despite his age, Ramudu resisted firmly and caught hold of the accused, preventing him from escaping.
He immediately alerted Dial 100, and Amberpet patrol police reached the spot within minutes and took the suspect into custody.
During investigation, the accused was identified as Abdul Mannan, an auto driver from Mallepally, with a criminal record of 31 cases across Telangana. He is also listed as a suspect in Habibnagar Police Station and is reportedly wanted in another case registered at Mangalhat Police Station.
At a function held at the old Commissionerate office in Basheerbagh, the Commissioner felicitated Ramudu with a shawl and cash reward. Praising his bravery, Sajjanar said Ramudu proved that once a soldier, always a soldier, and urged citizens to act responsibly in preventing crime.
Police personnel involved in the operation were also appreciated.
