Telangana BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar chaired a review meeting at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) office in Khairatabad on Wednesday to assess monsoon preparedness.

The HMWSSB has identified 146 waterlogging points across the city, which will be closely monitored. The minister praised officials for successfully reducing sewer overflow complaints by 30% through a 90-day action plan. He also reviewed the progress of soak pit installations, urging residents in plots above 300 square yards to construct them to improve groundwater levels.

The minister emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply and efficient drainage management during the rainy season. Officials were instructed to focus on waterlogging hotspots and prevent sewer overflows. He also stressed the importance of supplying clean drinking water and maintaining adequate chlorine levels to prevent contamination.

To curb water wastage, the minister directed officials to take strict action against illegal water connections and leaks. He assured that the government would support the board financially and work towards clearing pending dues from various departments.

Additionally, the minister highlighted ongoing projects, including the Godavari Phase 2 and 3 water supply schemes and the construction of 39 sewage treatment plants. He assured that these initiatives would secure Hyderabad’s water needs for the next 30 years.  Residents facing water supply or drainage issues can report complaints to the HMWSSB customer care number 155313.
