In response to extensive crop damage caused by recent hailstorms and unseasonal rains, the Government of Telangana has sanctioned Rs 51.53 crores in compensation to support affected farmers across 29 districts.
Following the directive of the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Agriculture department conducted detailed assessments and submitted reports identifying crop losses. According to the official estimates, 41,361 farmers have suffered crop losses across 51,528 acres due to adverse weather conditions.
Compensation funds will be credited directly into the bank accounts of the affected farmers. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has instructed officials to expedite the disbursement process in coordination with relevant departments. The Minister also mentioned that the report for crop damage in May has already been finalized and submitted, and the funds for that period are expected to be released shortly.
A total of 51,528 acres of agricultural land across Telangana suffered crop damage due to recent hailstorms and unseasonal rains. The most affected crop was paddy, with losses reported over 36,424 acres. Other significant crop damages included pulses over 6,589 acres, cotton across 4,753 acres, maize over 3,266 acres, and sorghum in 470 acres. An additional 477 acres, consisting of various other crops, were damaged, particularly due to flooding in certain regions.
Among the 29 affected districts, the top five in terms of compensation disbursed were Siddipet, Mulugu, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Mahabubnagar. Siddipet topped the list with Rs. 6.14 crores allotted to 4,913 farmers, followed by Mulugu with Rs. 5.73 crores for 2,933 farmers. Jagtial received Rs. 5.45 crores benefiting 5,099 farmers, Mancherial was allocated Rs. 4.60 crores for 3,017 farmers, and Mahabubnagar secured Rs. 4.0 crores for 3,888 affected farmers.
