Dr. Rambabu Muppidi, senior faculty member at Footwear Design & Development Institute, has earned two new Indian Design Patents for innovative projects in furniture and educational toy design, adding another achievement to his growing contribution to design innovation and intellectual property development.

The Indian Patent Office published both registered designs in Patent Office Journal No. 20/2026 dated May 15. One patent was granted for a “Designer Wooden Table” jointly developed with Dr. Ravindra Babu Veguri of GITAM. The design combines contemporary furniture aesthetics with functional craftsmanship and modern structural appeal suited for present-day lifestyle needs.

Another patent was awarded for “Toy Robo,” an interactive educational toy developed with Dr. Yogesh Babu of Edoxia Research University. The toy was designed to improve children’s analytical thinking, imagination and activity-based learning through playful interaction and creative engagement.

The “Toy Robo” project also drew inspiration from traditional Indian toy-making traditions, particularly Kondapalli and Etikoppaka crafts from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The research explored ways to transform indigenous handcrafted toy concepts into modern educational products for children. Speaking to Metro India, Dr. Rambabu Muppidi said preserving traditional arts through innovation remains his long-term mission. “Patents and design innovation can help protect artisan knowledge while creating sustainable opportunities for future generations,” he said. The patent registration process received intellectual property support and legal guidance from senior advocate Subhajit Saha through Resolute4IP.
