The Telangana state has reported a strong economic performance in 2024-25, with Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth surpassing the national average. According to the latest Socio-Economic Outlook 2025 report, Telangana's GSDP at current prices is estimated at Rs 16, 12,579 crore, registering a growth rate of 10.1%, compared to India's GDP growth of 9.9%.

The state’s economic strength is driven by key sectors like IT, infrastructure, and agriculture. At constant prices, Telangana's GSDP is estimated at Rs 8,16,835 crore, reflecting a 6.8% growth rate. The state’s contribution to India's GDP now stands at 4.9%, a remarkable feat considering Telangana’s relatively smaller geographical size and population.

Telangana's Per Capita Income vs. National Average

The per capita income (PCI) of Telangana has also shown significant improvement, reaching Rs 3,79,751 at current prices, marking a 9.6% increase over the previous year. This is 1.8 times higher than India's national per capita income of Rs 2,05,579, which grew at 8.8%. At constant prices, Telangana's PCI stands at Rs 1,87,912, while India's is Rs 1,14,705, showing the state's continued economic resilience.

District-wise performance: GDDP & Per Capita Income

At the district level, the Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP) data highlights an economic disparity, with urban centres leading growth. Top contributors to Telangana’s economy were Rangareddy – Rs 3,17,898 crore, Hyderabad – Rs 2,57,949 crore and Medchal-Malkajgiri – Rs 1,04,710 crore. Meanwhile, several districts lag in economic development, emphasizing the need for balanced regional growth.

Similarly, district-wise per capita income (PCI) at current prices reveals urban districts outperforming others: Rangareddy – Rs 10, 55,913, Hyderabad – Rs 5, 54,105 and Medchal-Malkajgiri – Rs 3,43,130.

These figures reinforce the economic concentration around Hyderabad and its neighbouring districts, necessitating targeted policies for equitable development across the state. The Telangana government is focusing on sustained economic growth, with policies aimed at boosting industrial expansion, digital transformation, and infrastructure development. By fostering a balanced economic approach, the state aims to strengthen regional economies and maintain its leadership in economic performance.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has announced that the State government has initiated SPEED (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, and Effective Delivery) to expedite the completion of 19 significant projects within the designated timeline. He stated, "This program emphasizes real-time monitoring, proactive execution, and efficient resource management to ensure projects are delivered on time and maximize benefits for the public."

While presenting the annual budget for 2025-26 in the Assembly on Wednesday, Bhatti Vikramarka noted that some key projects under SPEED include the Musi Riverfront Development, Metro Rail Expansion, Regional Ring Road construction, the construction of Telangana Bhavan in Delhi, a new building for Osmania Hospital, and the implementation of Anti-Narcotics Strategies.

He further informed that the State government is pioneering the development of India’s first Net-Zero Future City, setting a new standard in sustainable and smart urbanisation.

Designed to rival the world’s top cities, this eco-friendly, ultra-modern metropolis will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a pollution-free environment. Spanning 765 sq. km across 56 villages between the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar highways, this transformative mega-urban project is meticulously planned to drive innovation and economic growth, Bhatti Vikramarka said.

To ensure its seamless execution, the Future City Development Authority (FCDA) has been established. This nextgeneration city will be equipped with multimodal connectivity, an electric public transport network, and green buildings, fostering a sustainable and smart living ecosystem, he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the FCDA will house specialised zones such as an AI City, Pharma Hub, Sports City, and Clean Energy Innovation Zone, making it a global hub for technology, industry and sustainable development.
