Two drown while swimming in Godavari in Mulugu

A tragic incident occurred in Mulugu district’s Kannayigudem mandal after two members of a family drowned while swimming in the Godavari River at Lakshmipur village during the summer holidays.

According to police, rural medical practitioner Bommaraju Naresh Yadav, a resident of Lakshmipur, went to the river along with his two relatives for swimming. While they ventured into a deep stretch of the river, they accidentally slipped into deeper waters and began drowning. Another youth, Sampath Yadav, managed to escape and safely reached the riverbank.

Sampath immediately alerted family members and villagers over the phone about the incident. On receiving the information, villagers, family members, police personnel and expert swimmers rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the river.

After nearly two hours of intensive efforts, the bodies of Bommaraju Naresh and Jitta Eeshwar Vardhan Yadav were recovered from the water.

The deaths of the uncle and nephew have cast a pall of gloom over Lakshmipur and Royyur villages. Police registered a case based on a complaint from the family members and shifted the bodies to Eturunagaram Hospital for postmortem examination, said Kannayigudem SI Venkatesh.
