Nellore, Andhra Pradesh: Strengthening its commitment to community well-being and rural infrastructure development, Vedanta Power Meenakshi Energy Limited, a 1000 MW thermal power plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, has restored and renovated Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water plants, benefiting over 1,000 residents across the two villages of Lingavaram and Varagalli. The restored facilities shall ensure access to safe and clean drinking water for nearly 100 households through each RO plant in both villages. The initiative, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), addresses a critical community need, as both facilities had remained non-operational for more than a year, significantly impacting residents’ access to reliable drinking water.
Before Meenakshi Energy’s intervention, villagers were compelled to depend on distant and inconsistent water sources for their daily needs, causing considerable inconvenience, particularly for women and elderly residents. Recognizing the urgency of the issue, the company undertook extensive refurbishment of the plants to restore their functionality and improve long-term operational reliability.
As part of the renovation effort, Meenakshi Energy Limited carried out extensive refurbishment of the RO plants, including replacement of filters, membranes, and pumps, along with critical civil repairs and installation of automated systems to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and water quality standards. Following the upgrades, the facilities were formally handed over to the respective Panchayat administrations for continued community use and maintenance.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO, Vedanta Power said, “Access to safe drinking water is fundamental to community well-being. Through initiatives such as these, we aim to strengthen essential rural infrastructure and improve quality of life across our operational areas. We remain committed to driving meaningful and sustainable CSR interventions spanning water, health, education, and community development.” As part of these efforts, the company recently installed 35 solar streetlights across the villages of Thamminapatnam, Momidi, Lingavaram, and Varagalli, benefiting over 2,000 residents by improving night-time visibility, accessibility, and public safety.
