Medicover Hospitals, Hitech City, has successfully performed a life-saving brain stem tumor surgery on a 7-year-old international patient, Khaja (name changed), who had been refused surgery at multiple hospitals due to the complexity of his condition.

Khaja arrived with severe visual disturbances and difficulty in walking. Advanced diagnostic imaging revealed a rare and critical tumor in the brainstem – one of the most sensitive areas of the brain, where even the slightest error during surgery could result in lifelong neurological complications.

Dr. Srikanth Reddy, Senior Consultant Neuro & Spine Surgeon, using cutting-edge tools like intraoperative neuro monitoring, a neuro microscope, and the latest CUSA 10 NM equipment, the tumor was completely removed without causing any neurological deficits.

The Post-Operative Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) played a vital role in Khaja’s recovery. Continuous monitoring, ventilatory support, and neuro protective protocols ensured the child’s brain functions remained stable during the critical recovery phase.

‘Pediatric post-op care, especially after brain surgeries, is extremely delicate. Our PICU team monitored every parameter minute-by-minute to prevent even the slightest complication,’ said Dr. Janardhan Reddy, HOD, Pediatric ICU. Post-surgery, the tumor was confirmed to be low-grade and non-aggressive. The child is now undergoing radiation therapy to prevent recurrence and ensure long-term wellness.
