Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila has strongly condemned the removal of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s statue from Gandhi Centre in Nandigama, calling it an act of political vendetta by the ruling coalition.

Accusing the government of targeting YSR’s legacy to settle scores with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), Sharmila said, “Dr. YSR served the people of united Andhra Pradesh until his last breath. The welfare schemes he implemented became a model for the nation. His name is neither the property nor the patent of YSRCP, he belongs to all Telugu people. Demolishing the statue of such a towering leader is a disgraceful act.”

While clarifying that she had no objection to the removal of illegal structures erected by YSRCP around the statue, Sharmila criticised the government for using it as a pretext to dismantle the monument itself. “The statue at Gandhi Centre was installed by the then government after YSR’s demise. Its removal now is a clear reflection of the coalition’s political intolerance,” she alleged.
