Andhra Pradesh cabinet clears revised district map

Approves 24 key decisions

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Monday approved a revised district reorganisation map along with 23 other key policy and administrative decisions, marking a significant step towards restructuring governance based on public feedback and administrative efficiency. The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad said the Cabinet held detailed deliberations on objections and suggestions received from the public following the earlier notification on district, division and mandal reorganisation. He was joined at the press conference by Ministers Nadendla Manohar and Satyakumar Yadav.

The Minister said the government received extensive feedback from across the state, which was carefully examined before finalising the revised administrative map. “Out of the total districts, no changes were made in nine districts, while modifications were approved in 17 districts to address genuine public aspirations and ensure administrative convenience. In all, 25 changes were carried out across districts, revenue divisions and mandals,” he explained.

One of the major outcomes of the Cabinet decision is the formation of a new Markapur district by consolidating the Markapuram, Giddalur, Kanigiri and Yerragondapalem regions.

In addition, Banaganapalle and Adda Road were approved as new revenue divisions, aimed at improving accessibility to government services and reducing the distance citizens need to travel for administrative work.

Responding to a long-pending demand, the Cabinet approved the alignment of Railway Koduru with Tirupati district. Ministers said this move reflected strong public sentiment and would help streamline governance and service delivery in the region.

Clarifying speculation surrounding Annamayya district, Anagani Satya Prasad said the district will retain its name, with Madanapalle designated as the headquarters. At the same time, the Chief Minister assured focused and accelerated development for Rayachoti, addressing concerns raised by local representatives and residents.

The ministers pointed out that several of the present issues stemmed from hasty and opaque district bifurcation carried out by the previous government. “This time, the government followed a transparent process, invited public objections and suggestions, and made corrections wherever necessary. People’s opinion was given top priority,” they said.

All changes related to districts, divisions and mandals will come into effect from January 1, the Revenue Minister confirmed, adding that the reorganisation was driven purely by administrative logic and public interest, not political considerations.

Apart from district reorganisation, the Cabinet approved a wide range of decisions covering welfare, infrastructure, urban development and investments. These included loan interest relief for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries, implementation of prepaid smart meters in government offices to enable power sector reforms, and several large-scale Amaravati capital city infrastructure projects funded through NABARD, World Bank and ADB assistance.

The Cabinet also cleared proposals related to ports and airports, shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam and land acquisition for the Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport.
