Andhra Pradesh is gearing up for a logistics and maritime transformation in line with the “Swarna Andhra Vision”, with a renewed focus on inland waterways and strategic port development. At a special meeting held in Vijayawada, State Minister for Infrastructure and Investment B.C. Janardhan Reddy announced that the state’s logistics policy has been revised to unlock the potential of inland waterways and improve connectivity.
The minister revealed that a three-year action plan is being prepared to drive development across key maritime and inland water networks. “Once our ports are fully integrated, Andhra Pradesh’s economic landscape will be significantly reshaped,” he said. The meeting brought together industrial stakeholders and partners to deliberate on opportunities in inland waterways. Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satyana- rayana, Inland Waterways Authority Chairman Dr. Shivaprasad, and Industries Secretary N. Yuvaraj were present.
Minister Janardhan Reddy highlighted recent central support, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had virtually inaugurated the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour (Rs.288.8 crore) and Pudimadaka Fishing Harbour (Rs.395.53 crore). He also listed progress on four greenfield non-major ports and four fishing harbours. Additionally, he stated that six ship landing centres will be constructed at Chintapalli, Bheemunipatnam, Rajayya- peta, Dondavaka, Uppalanka, and Rayadaruvu. The state is also planning a greenfield captive port at Anakapalli for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd.
Furthermore Minister Janardhan Reddy said that future plans include an urban water metro between Vijayawada and Amaravati and inland water connectivity from Muktyala to both Machilipatnam and Kakinada Ports. River cruises are also being planned between Srisailam and Akkamahadevi Caves, and Polavaram to Pochavaram, boosting tourism and local employment.
