An all-party review meeting was held under the leadership of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to discuss the controversial Banakacharla irrigation project being constructed by Andhra Pradesh. The meeting took place at Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy’s chamber in the Secretariat with participation from MPs of various political parties.
Representing the BJP, Mahabubnagar MP DK Aruna and Medak MP Raghunandan Rao attended the meeting. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar presented a detailed PowerPoint briefing on how the Banakacharla project violates norms and poses serious concerns for Telangana's water share and interests.
Speaking after the meeting, DK Aruna stated that BJP will not tolerate any injustice towards Telangana. “Following the instructions of BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy, we attended the meeting and assured that the concerns raised would be taken to the Centre,” she said.
The MPs stated they would soon meet Union Jal Shakti Minister to present the facts and protect Telangana’s rightful share of water. They also questioned the state government’s efforts in securing full approvals for pending projects and utilization of the state's share of Godavari waters. The Centre is actively reviewing the Banakacharla project, they added.
