Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday condemned what he called the “unnecessary aggression” by police against BJP, BJYM and Mahila Morcha activists protesting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s alleged disparaging remarks on Hindu deities.

A peaceful demonstration near the BJP state office was foiled after police erected barricades on both sides of the headquarters and allegedly used force to disperse workers. Several party activists, including women, were reportedly pushed and detained.

Mahila Morcha state president M. Shilpa Reddy suffered a leg injury, while BJYM state president Ganesh fainted during the scuffle, BJP leaders claimed.

Calling the police action 'immoral and inhuman', Rao accused the ruling Congress of misusing the police machinery. He demanded immediate action against those responsible and insisted that the Chief Minister apologise for his 'insulting remarks' about Hindu Gods.

Rao warned that the BJP would not be cowed down by 'illegal arrests' and vowed to continue its fight to “protect the honour of Hindus and democratic rights.”

Earlier, BJP activists raised slogans against the Congress government and burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister.
