Showered with praise from all quarters

The Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is basking in glory and is being showered with praise from all quarters after the Central Government’s decision to include Caste Census in the upcoming National Population Census. Politicians from different parties acknowledged the caste census taken up by the Revanth Reddy government.
“This is a proud moment for Telangana and for the country. Under the vision and direction of Rahul Gandhi, who first raised the demand for a nation-wide caste census during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Telangana became the first state to act,” said Revanth Reddy. “Our state conducted a detailed survey last year, which revealed that 56.32 percent of our population belongs to Backward Castes. Based on this data, we proposed 42 percent reservations for OBCs in education, employment, and political positions."
Calling it a "historic moment for social justice in India." Revanth Reddy emphasized that Telangana had already taken the lead by conducting the first comprehensive Social, Economic, and Caste Survey in independent India, noting that the last such exercise was conducted in 1931 by the British.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted that Telangana’s bold step inspired a national conversation. “What Telangana does today, India follows tomorrow. Our government, along with the Telangana Congress unit, took this struggle across the country and protested at Jantar Mantar demanding the caste census. Today, we have proved that a progressive state action can set national standards.”
Revanth Reddy credited the growing momentum behind OBC empowerment to the consistent advocacy of the Congress leadership and the pioneering work done in Telangana. He congratulated the Central Government and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Cabinet for finally agreeing to conduct the caste census as part of the national enumeration process.
“This decision is a testament to people’s movements and visionary policymaking. Telangana has once again shown that real governance means putting data and equity at the center of development,” CM stressed.
demands swift nod for OBC Quota implementation
The Telangana Backward Classes Commission has welcomed the Union Cabinet’s decision to conduct a Caste Census along with the upcoming National Population Census. The Commission noted that backward communities across India have long demanded a caste census to ensure equitable representation and policy-making.
Telangana has already completed its own caste survey and passed two bills in the State Legislative Assembly proposing 42% reservations for Backward Classes in education, employment, and political representation.
In a press note, BC Commission Chairman G. Niranjan urged the Central Government to approve these bills without delay, enabling immediate implementation in Telangana. He emphasized that since Telangana has already concluded the survey process, there is no justification to postpone the approval while the national exercise is underway.
Don't know what happened but suddenly after 11 years, the Caste Census has been announced. We completely support it, but we want a timeline. Telangana has become a model in the Caste Census and it can become a blueprint. We offer our support to the Govt in designing the Caste Census.

The BJP government, after delaying the caste census, has finally agreed to conduct it with the upcoming Census—but key questions remain. This move, timed with Bihar elections, is clearly political. Caste Census is essential for true social justice. For DMK and Tamil Nadu, this is a hard-earned victory.

The Centre will include caste data in the upcoming census, a long-pending demand I’ve supported since 2021. I thank Telangana CM Revanth Reddy for leading India’s first Caste Census, showing 56.32% BCs and proposing 42% BC reservations. We urgently need similar data on backward Muslim communities. The BJP must uphold transparency in data collection and ensure policies are fair and aligned with the findings.
