KTR sounds poll bugle against Cong

State-wide campaign to begin from Sep 1

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has called on party leaders, elected representatives and workers to make the party’s week-long state-wide campaign a success by highlighting what it describes as the Congress government’s “inefficient” administration, failure to implement electoral promises and allegations of corruption.

Addressing senior leaders, public representatives, former representatives and state executive members through a teleconference on Friday, Rama Rao issued detailed directions for the programmes to be held across Telangana from September 2. He said the Congress had promised to implement its major assurances within 100 days but had failed to fulfil them even after 1,000 days in office.

KTR said the BRS, as the principal Opposition party, had a responsibility to expose what it termed the Congress government’s failures before the people. He asked party leaders not to restrict the campaign to demonstrations but to explain to every household what promises Congress made during the elections, how many had been implemented and which commitments were still pending.

The campaign will begin on September 1 with a media conference at Telangana Bhavan, where the BRS will release a “chargesheet” against the Congress government. This will be followed by a series of protests and public programs across the State. 

On September 2, the party will organise dharnas at all constituency headquarters over the alleged failure to implement Congress’s six guarantees. September 3 will be dedicated to farmers’ issues. Farmer conventions will be organised at constituency centres to highlight concerns relating to agriculture, irrigation, electricity, urea and crop insurance.

The party will also organise special protests over land-related issues involving the 22-A prohibited list, which, it says, are affecting people in Hyderabad and other urban areas. On September 4, special conventions will be held involving women, persons with disabilities and other sections of society. The BRS plans to focus on alleged failures in implementing promises made to women, including monthly financial assistance of Rs. 2,500, KCR Kits, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak and one tola of gold. Innovative protests such as “Vantavarpu” programs will also be organised in various areas.

September 5 will focus on students and youth. The party will also organise special programs concerning CCI-related issues in Adilabad and problems faced by communities in the Singareni region. On September 6, a special auto rally will be organised in Hyderabad to highlight civic issues such as drinking water, street lighting, law and order, traffic and the functioning of Basti Dawakhanas. The September 7 Praja Vani program will also be used as a platform to highlight public grievances.

Following the week-long campaign, the party will hold press conferences at all district headquarters on September 8 to explain the protests conducted, public response and issues raised against the government. Leaders will also pay floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. KTR the programs should be conducted extensively, creatively and with active public participation. The overall objective, he said, is to take the alleged failures of the Congress government, unimplemented promises and public grievances directly to the people.
