In view of the festival and holiday season, the Commercial Department of South Central Railway conducted an intensive zonal-level ticket checking drive from August 24 to 26, 2026, to curb unauthorized travel and ensure comfortable journeys for genuine passengers.
The drive covered the entire jurisdiction of the South Central Railway zone. Trains were thoroughly checked, with special focus on passengers travelling without valid tickets, irregular travellers and those carrying unbooked luggage. Action was also taken against smoking, littering and unauthorized hawking on railway premises.
During the three-day drive, 13,964 passengers travelling without tickets or irregularly were detected, while 1,189 passengers were found carrying unbooked luggage. Ticket checking revenue of Rs 1.28 crore was realised.
In addition, 37 passengers were penalised for littering railway premises, resulting in fines of Rs 6,400. Five unauthorized hawkers were detected and fined Rs 10,000, while seven passengers were penalised ₹14,000 for smoking on railway premises.
Ticket checking staff also counselled passengers on the importance of travelling with proper tickets and informed them about penalties for various offences. Passengers were sensitised to the fire hazards associated with smoking in trains and railway premises and urged to avoid littering and maintain cleanliness.
South Central Railway appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets, cooperate with ticket checking staff and follow railway rules. General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava appreciated the efforts of the Commercial Department, stating that intensive ticket checking helps curb ticketless and irregular travel, ensures greater comfort for genuine passengers and promotes a clean and safe railway environment.
IIT-H engaged for station traffic study
Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway has engaged IIT Hyderabad (IITH) to undertake comprehensive traffic assessment studies at Secunderabad and Lingampalli railway stations. The initiative aims to improve passenger dispersal, ease traffic congestion and strengthen multimodal connectivity.
The study will assess vehicular and pedestrian movement, traffic circulation, station access, multimodal integration and bottlenecks. It will also examine parking facilities, pick-up and drop-off arrangements, junction and signal improvements, and traffic management measures around the stations.
Advanced technologies, including drone surveys, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-based CCTV analysis, passenger field surveys and traffic simulations, will be used to develop data-driven solutions to improve safety, accessibility and operational efficiency.
The Commercial Department of Secunderabad Division is leading the initiative in coordination with the Engineering, RPF, Operating and other departments, besides external stakeholders.
