A two-day Constitution Conclave 2026 organized by the Centre for Dalit Studies in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Dalit Studies (IIDS), Centre for Dalit Rights (CDR), National Alliance for Social Justice, Dalit Coalition, People’s Campaign for Socio-Economic Equity, Dalit Bahujan Front (DBF), National Movement for Land, Labour & Justice (NMLLJ), Dalit Human Rights Defenders Network (DHRDNet) and the National Council of Women Leaders (NCWL) commenced on Sunday at Hyderabad.
Welcoming the gathering, Mallepalli Laxmaiah, Chairman, Centre for Dalit Studies, traced the journey of the 75-lecture series on the Constitution initiated on 26 November 2024. The inaugural session was presided over by Kaki Madhava Rao, former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. Delivering the inaugural lecture, Professor Ronki Ram highlighted the historical significance of Dalit political assertion, particularly the Ad-Dharm Movement in Punjab.
In his keynote address, Dr. Rajasekhar, Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana stressed that the Constitution must function as a justiciable instrument of equality. Professor R. Limbadri, Former Chairman, TSCHE, spoke on Ambedkar’s vision of education. Professor Haragopal cautioned that neoliberal economic policies and rising inequalities are undermining the Directive Principles of State Policy.
G. Sudheer Babu, Commissioner of Police, Future City, Hyderabad, spoke on constitutionalism and the rule of law. He was felicitated on this occasion for his promotion as Additional DGP, Telangana. The second session was on “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Foundations of Constitutional Justice”, and the third session on “Social Justice and the Directive Principles of State Policy”.
