Drain diversion works in Vemulawada is moving at a snail’s pace. The work was taken up last August with a fund of Rs 3 crore but the progress has been slow. This work was started to prevent the sewage in Vemulawada town from flowing into the temple tank. While about 80 lakh litres of sewage waste is coming to Vemulawada every day, 15 lakh litres of water is entering into the temple tank from the canal.
The officials it is said completed the tender process on a war footing to take up the work. But, the authorities delayed the work in the name of inspections, which turned into a curse for the Vemulawada residents. Municipal officials say that the work of laying the pine adjacent to the FTL is being delayed due to the high water level in the temple tank.
Approximately 15 lakh litres of sewage is flowing into the Rajanna Temple tank every day. Municipal officials estimate that 50 to 60 lakh litres of sewage is flowing into the city every day in Vemulawada.
Officials estimate that approximately 15 lakh litres of sewage is flowing into the temple tank every day from 16 places including Kattukaluva and Bhagavantharao Nagar Colony. The foundation stone was also laid on August 9 but since then there has been little progress.
Sewage water will be diverted from the Kattu canal to the Jagityala bus stand through an underground pipeline. A 2.2 kilometers pipeline will be constructed through a two-foot diagram pipeline to divert the sewage. While the temple pond is completely filled with water due to heavy rains, the FTL boundaries will be determined and the pipeline will be constructed along it.
The pipeline will be laid from the parking lot collected in the temple pond to the Jagityala bus stand. Before the work begins, the engineering officials of the municipal department will inspect the pipes to be laid underground and give permission.
The officials of the concerned departments revealed that they have already visited the factory where the pipes are being made and inspected them twice. Residents of Vemulawada urged the district collector Sandeep Kumar Jha to take steps to start the work to divert the sewage as soon as possible.
Responding to this matter, Vemulawada AE Narasimhaswamy said sewage diversion works are going on at full speed. We will complete the work in two months and eliminate the sewage problem. We started the work from Jagityala bus stand across the temple pond. The higher authorities are discussing with those who will lose their lands in these works and are taking steps to ensure smooth progress.
