EkChitra opens expansive new art gallery

Hyderabad’s visual arts landscape has gained a new multidisciplinary destination with the opening of EkChitra Art Gallery, founded by artist and curator Annapurna Madipadiga. Designed as more than a conventional exhibition space, the new gallery will host large-scale exhibitions, workshops, performances, screenings, artist interactions and public discussions. The launch was attended by art collector Anju Poddar, filmmaker Deva Katta, director Venkatesh Maha, artist and Yadadri temple architect Anand Sai, senior artists B.A. Reddy and Shankar Pamarthy, and members of Hyderabad’s art community.

The spacious gallery can accommodate paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics, photography, installations, mixed-media works and performances. A permanent printmaking studio will also provide artists and students opportunities for experimentation, workshops and knowledge exchange. Madipadiga said the gallery emerged from years of exhibitions, collaborations and conversations, creating a need for a larger platform combining art, learning and public participation.
