In a major push to improve road infrastructure in Telangana, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, on May 5 (Monday), will inaugurate the much-awaited Amberpet Flyover today, along with inaugurating or laying foundation stone for another 25 crucial national highway projects, representing a combined investment of nearly Rs 5416 crore by the central government.

He will be initially inaugurating or laying foundation for a total of 11 projects from the erstwhile Adilabad district in the morning, followed by the inauguration or laying foundation stone for another 15 projects in the afternoon from the Amberpet Flyover venue. Overall , Gadkari will dedicate to the nation 138 km length of completed 15  national highway projects that cost Rs 4590 crore.

The four-lane Amberpet Flyover on NH-202, stretching 1.47 km from Golnaka to MCH Quarters near Purnodaya Colony, is finally ready for official inauguration after years of delay. Though its foundation was laid in 2018, work began only in 2021 and was slowed down by land acquisition challenges and obstacles posed by unauthorised religious structures.

The project cost touched Rs 415 crore, with the Centre spending Rs 265 crore while GHMC contributing Rs 150 crore solely for land acquisition purposes. For completing the balance service road works below, traffic is being allowed on the fly-over on a trial basis for the last four weeks. However, the official inauguration muhurat has been set for May 5.

Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, who inspected the site ahead of the inauguration, emphasised that the flyover will significantly ease traffic congestion in and around Amberpet and streamline travel between Warangal and Hyderabad. He also noted that political hurdles and overnight encroachments had delayed the project. Although the elevated corridor works are complete, land acquisition for widening the service road below at five points is still facing obstacles. Kishan Reddy mentioned that a letter was written to the state government and GHMC to help resolve the issues at the earliest.

Alongside Amberpet, another key project being inaugurated is the flyover at BHEL Junction near Patancheru on NH-65. This structure is expected to reduce congestion and provide signal-free, uninterrupted travel for thousands of daily commuters.

Meanwhile, another seven highway infrastructure projects under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) aimed at enhancing road connectivity in and around Hyderabad will be thrown open on the same day. One key project involves expanding a stretch of NH-44 from Aramghar to Shamshabad into six lanes, facilitating smoother travel for vehicles moving between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka and enabling signal-free airport connectivity.

The widening of NH-167 between Mahbubnagar and Jadcherla is set to enhance regional transport efficiency and boost tourism to sites like Someshwara temple and the Srisailam wildlife reserve. Additionally, the completed expansion between Alinagar and Miryalaguda improves corridor connectivity between NH-44 and NH-65. The widening of NH-565 from Narketpally to Nagarjuna Sagar strengthens road links between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Finally, road development from Kodad to Khammam on NH-365A significantly boosts connectivity to Warangal, Bhadradri, and industrial zones, supporting economic activities such as cargo transport and access to education and healthcare. These projects collectively aim to improve interstate travel, reduce traffic congestion, and support regional development across multiple sectors.

Gadkari to visit Adilabad initially

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit Adilabad district in the morning to inaugurate and lay the foundation for several significant national highway projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic development. The inauguration includes 123 kilometers of completed highways, notably the Mancherial–Wankidi stretch of NH-363, which traverses Mancherial and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts.

Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for 8.1 kilometers of new highway works, featuring infrastructure such as six-lane underpasses at Gudihatnur and Sitagondi, a 1.4 km service road with a retaining wall near Mavala check post, and service road enhancements at Mupkal Crossroads, CMC Junction, and Chittapur Junction along the Nagpur–Hyderabad section of NH-44. Ends//
