Noting that 4,140 students are currently pursuing MBBS annually in the state, the Minister acknowledged concerns regarding the quality of education due to the rapid increase in the number of colleges and seats
In a major initiative to upgrade the standards of medical education in the state, the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare has decided to implement a comprehensive Digital Education policy in Government Medical Colleges. Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha has directed officials to immediately roll out state-of-the-art digital education systems across all 35 government medical colleges, moving beyond traditional teaching methods.
Noting that 4,140 students are currently pursuing MBBS annually in the state, the Minister acknowledged concerns regarding the quality of education due to the rapid increase in the number of colleges and seats. He stated that doctors from Osmania and Gandhi Medical Colleges have global recognition, and this standard must be replicated across all institutions. "Whether it is a student at Osmania or a student at the Asifabad Medical College, they must receive the same high-quality education," the Minister asserted.
Installation of Smart Boards and LED screens in classrooms. Implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS) and mechanisms to test student skills regularly. Utilization of Virtual Labs, Simulation Tools, and Virtual Reality (VR) to provide a clear understanding of complex anatomy and surgical procedures are some of the measures to be taken as part of digital overhaul.
The Minister directed that the prestigious Osmania, Gandhi, and Warangal MGM colleges be developed as 'Centers of Excellence.' These institutions will focus on future technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) and will serve as training hubs for other colleges.
To handle the high patient load in teaching hospitals, arrangements should be made to explain clinical case studies to students via Telemedicine. The curriculum must be digitized in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines and integrated with the National Digital Library.
