HMDA distributes plants

As part of Vanamahotsavam–2026, HMDA Urban Forestry organised a Free Plant Distribution Programme at the Hyderabad 5K Run held at HITEX Exhibition Centre on Saturday. Various plant species were distributed free of cost to the participants and visitors, and the initiative received an overwhelming response.

The programme was aimed at promoting greenery in the city and encouraging greater public participation in environmental conservation. In view of rapid urbanisation, citizens were encouraged to grow and nurture plants in their homes, residential communities and other available spaces. Growing plants contributes to improving air quality, reducing the urban heat effect, enhancing biodiversity and creating a healthier urban environment.

HMDA Urban Forestry has been undertaking various green initiatives across the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region, including development of urban parks, avenue and central median plantations, landscape development, nursery management and free plant distribution programmes, with the objective of enhancing urban green cover and encouraging community participation in greening efforts.

The Free Plant Distribution Programme was conducted under the supervision of Rohit Gopidi, Director, Urban Forestry, HMDA, and Donepudi Chakrapani, Assistant Director (Horticulture), and was organised by Nikhil Reddy, Forest Range Officer, Deputy Range Officers Sowmya and Nikhil Kumar, along with the Urban Forestry staff.

The officials called upon citizens to plant, nurture and protect the plants and actively contribute towards building a greener and healthier Hyderabad.
