Hyderabad marathon sets record

The 15th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026, powered by IDFC FIRST Bank, recorded a landmark 32,000 registrations, making it one of India’s largest running events.

The marathon featured the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and, for the first time, an Inclusive Run. Around 11,000 runners took part in the Half and Full Marathons, 9,000 in the 10K and 6,500 in the 5K and Inclusive Runs.

Ethiopia’s Emane Seifu won the women’s elite title in 2:46:29, while compatriot Seboka Negusse claimed the men’s title in 2:20:57. Nirmaben Thakor and Gopi Thonakal emerged as the leading Indian finishers.

A major highlight was the participation of 184 tribal youth from Chhattisgarh, where NMDC operates mining projects. The Inclusive Run, organised with Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation, saw around 300 differently abled participants.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh and other dignitaries flagged off various events.

The marathon also highlighted its sustainability and inclusivity initiatives. The previous edition became India’s first marathon to receive the World Athletics Silver Sustainability Award, while the event has now earned SheRACES accreditation for promoting safer and more inclusive participation for women.

The marathon supports 40 NGOs and has raised over Rs 2 crore for charitable causes.
