Induction stoves are rapidly going out of stock across Hyderabad, both online and in retail stores, as a sudden surge in demand follows concerns about potential disruptions in LPG supply.
Listings for electric cooktops on quick-commerce platforms such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto, as well as e-commerce sites and stores like DMart, have recently shown “Unavailable” or “Sold Out” in several parts of the city. Budget and mid-range models have disappeared the fastest, with some listings showing delivery timelines stretching a week or more.
Retailers say the spike in demand is far from typical. At the DMart outlet in Himayatnagar, store manager Venkatesh K said sales have jumped sharply over the past few days. “Earlier we sold only a few induction stoves a week,” he said. “Now we’re selling around 50, especially the budget models.” The sudden rush has emptied shelves, leaving many customers without a purchase.
According to retailers, the surge appears largely driven by consumer concerns about LPG availability. Suppliers have struggled to replenish stock quickly, and prices for remaining units have risen slightly due to limited supply. Store staff advise buyers to check multiple outlets and ensure they have induction-compatible cookware.
Authorities, however, say fears of a gas shortage are unfounded. Government sources have reiterated that LPG supplies remain stable and that there is no disruption in distribution. Despite this, many residents appear to be purchasing electric alternatives as a precaution.
Social media platforms such as Reddit, Instagram and X are filled with Hyderabad users sharing updates about stock shortages and tips on where to find cooktops. Some posts suggest checking smaller neighborhood appliance stores where occasional restocks are still happening.
As induction stoves become harder to find, alternative cooking options are also gaining attention online. Infrared cooktops, which work with any cookware, are being suggested as substitutes, while electric rice cookers and multi-cookers are recommended for everyday meals.
Retailers say the shortage may be temporary, but the sudden spike highlights how quickly consumer buying patterns can shift when concerns about fuel supply arise.
