Mangalagiri to get Rs 18-crore model Rythu Bazaar

A modern integrated retail and wholesale vegetable market is set to come up in Mangalagiri constituency, with the government initiating steps to strengthen market infrastructure for farmers and consumers.

The Model Rythu Bazaar, proposed near the Nidamarru railway gate, will be developed across 5.90 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore. State IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the project on Thursday. The project is being taken up with financial support from the Aurobindo Pharma Trust through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative).

The market will have a built-up area of around 72,000 sq ft and is planned as an environmentally friendly facility integrating retail and wholesale trade under one roof. The retail section will have 102 vegetable stalls, 54 dedicated stalls for fruits and flowers and another 60 shops for other commercial activities.

The wholesale section will include 18 unloading platforms and 23 vegetable shops, providing traders and farmers with dedicated spaces for bulk transactions. The proposed facility is designed to go beyond a conventional farmers’ market. It will include a cold-storage facility, vegetable cleaning area, administrative office, canteen and public toilets.

Modern utility and environmental infrastructure will also form part of the project. Dedicated vehicle parking, a water sump, overhead tank and generator will be provided. An organic waste converter will help manage vegetable and other biodegradable waste generated at the market, while rooftop solar panels will contribute to meeting the facility’s energy requirements.

The integrated market is expected to improve the trading environment for farmers, provide consumers with better access to fresh produce and streamline retail and wholesale vegetable transactions. Officials said the project would particularly benefit farmers and residents of Mangalagiri and surrounding areas by creating a more organized marketplace with improved storage, sanitation, parking and waste-management facilities.
