The Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI), has begun construction of its new advanced cancer care campus in Andhra Pradesh’s capital region. The groundbreaking ceremony, led by hospital chairman and TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna, took place today near Thullur, marking a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
Located along the E-7 road from Nelapadu to Ananthavaram, the new facility will be built on 21 acres in three phases. The first phase, expected to be completed by 2028, will have a capacity of 500 beds and offer a comprehensive range of oncology services, backed by Rs.750 crore in investment for infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment, and clinical excellence. In the second phase, capacity will be expanded to 1,000 beds, with specialised departments, research divisions, and enhanced patient facilities, making it a regional referral hub for complex cancer cases.
Speaking at the ceremony, Balakrishna emphasised that the Amaravati campus will be developed as a “centre of excellence” for integrated cancer care, combining cutting-edge medical technology with multidisciplinary approaches. The facility will provide end-to-end services, from prevention and early detection to treatment, rehabilitation, and survivorship programs.
The project, originally allotted land by the state government years ago, had faced delays due to various reasons. After the new TDP government took office, an additional six acres were sanctioned, and full administrative support was extended to ensure construction could commence.
Dignitaries present included Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Municipal Administration Minister Dr. P. Narayana, Health Minister V. Satyakumar, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), Tadikonda MLA U. Sridevi, and Amaravati Development Corporation Chairperson Lakshmi Parthasarathy, among others. Trustees, senior oncologists, and local community members also attended in large numbers.
Balakrishna expressed gratitude to donors, partners, and well-wishers, noting that the hospital’s mission has always been to bring world-class cancer treatment closer to underserved regions. “This new campus is not just a medical facility—it is a promise of hope, compassion, and healing for thousands of families,” he said.
