Privilege committee holds first meeting under B T Naidu

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council’s Privilege Committee held its first meeting on Friday, marking an important step in strengthening legislative accountability and upholding the dignity of members. The session was chaired by Committee Chairman and MLC B.T. Naidu, with committee members and senior officials in attendance.

Prominent members who participated included Jayendra Bharat, Parvatha Reddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, Talasila Raghuram, and Rajagolla Ramesh Yadav. During the meeting, the committee held extensive discussions on the rights and privileges of Legislative Council members, as well as the nature of complaints referred to the panel for consideration.

According to the officials, the meeting focused on ensuring that the privileges of legislators are not undermined, while also maintaining fairness and accountability in handling complaints. Members highlighted the importance of protecting the reputation and authority of the Council, noting that any violation of privileges should be addressed firmly and in accordance with established procedures.

The committee also deliberated on mechanisms to strengthen safeguards for legislators, with emphasis on creating a fair process to investigate issues without compromising democratic principles. The discussions included strategies to handle complaints efficiently, streamline procedures, and set clear precedents for future cases. The committee resolved to meet regularly and pursue its work with greater seriousness, signaling a more active phase in monitoring privilege-related issues.
