Govt sent eight IPS officers’ names to UPSC
metro india news I hyderabad
Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender will retire in the month of September this year. Against this backdrop, the State government has completed the process of finding a new police chief.
There are eight senior IPS officers in the race for the post of the DGP. The state government has sent eight names to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The commission will send three names from the list of the eight officers based on their qualifications to the State government for its final decision.
The State government has sent the names of eight senior IPS officers to the UPSC like Ravi Gupta, CV Anand, Dr Jitender, Apte Vinayak Prabhakar, Kothakota Srinivas Reddy, B. Shivdhar Reddy, Dr Soumya Mishra and Shikha Goyal. The new boss of the Telangana Police Department will be known in a few days. The government will appoint one of the three officers recommended by the UPSC and the DGP.
Senior IPS officer Kothakota Srinivas Reddy, who also worked as the Hyderabad CP, will retire on August 5 this year, and Ravi Gupta on December 19 this year. Similarly, CV Anand will retire on June 2028, Apte Vinayak Prabhakar in October 2029, B Shivdhar Reddy on April 28, 2026, Dr Soumya Mishra on December 30, 2027, and Shikha Goyal will retire on March 31, 2029.
However, police sources say CV Anand, Shivdhar Reddy, and Soumya Mishra have emerged as strong contenders for the DGP post. If all the equations are correct, it is not surprising if Soumya Mishra gets the opportunity to become the first woman DGP in the State. However, according to the political and institutional equations, it is known that CV Anand and Shivdhar Reddy are the main contenders for the post of DGP.
