Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao has challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to an open public debate near the Gandhi statue at the Assembly on the issue of delimitation, while strongly rejecting the ongoing North versus South narrative as a “diversionary tactic.” He alleged that such arguments are being deliberately amplified to stall the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Ramchander Rao asserted that the North South divide being projected by opposition parties, particularly Congress, is misleading and aimed at creating regional mistrust. He maintained that delimitation is a constitutional process linked to population changes and equitable representation, and should not be politicized through regional sentiments.
Highlighting the significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, he described it as a historic milestone that ensures 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making the long pending reform a reality, stating that it reflects the Centre’s firm commitment to women’s political empowerment.
Ramchander Rao further noted that with India’s population reaching around 1.4 billion, the proposed delimitation process could increase the number of parliamentary seats by nearly 50 percent. Within this expanded framework, one third of the seats will be reserved for women, significantly enhancing their participation in governance.
He also pointed out that the Union government has already moved an amendment to ensure that the implementation of women’s reservation comes into effect from 2029, aligning it with the delimitation exercise.
Dismissing concerns that the legislation would disadvantage certain regions, he termed such claims as “false propaganda” and urged people not to be misled. Reiterating his challenge, he called upon the Chief Minister to engage in an open and transparent debate, expressing confidence that facts would prevail over political narratives.
