Former State Minister V. Srinivas Goud, Karnataka State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, and MP Srinivas Poojari on Sunday attended the "Karnataka Women's Nari Shakti State Level Conference" held at the NIMHANS Convention Center in Bengaluru as the chief guests.
Speaking on this occasion, former Minister V. Srinivas Goud said that Even though nearly 80 years had passed since India gained independence, the women still face disrespect, rapes, and attacks every day. He expressed his anguish that despite the existence of women's laws, their implementation was not being done properly.
He demanded that fast-track courts be established for unexpected incidents against the women, rapes, dowry harassment and other such cases and added that justice be delivered within two months along with stringent punishments. He stated that when women constitute 50 percent of the population, they should have 50 percent reservations but rued that only 33 percent reservation for women had been introduced in the legislatures.
He demanded that this be implemented immediately and that necessary laws be made and enforced for women's empowerment for the true freedom of the women. He expressed his hope that such women's conferences would be held in all states of the country to create awareness among women. He also said that such conferences serve as a platform to discuss the women's empowerment, safety, and equal rights and contribute to strengthening women's power. The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women's Commission, Dr. Nagalakshmi, the women's president Amita, and others.
