Vaccines for all: Building a healthier life

09-11-2025 12:00:00 AM

Every year, World Immunization Day celebrates one of humanity’s greatest achievements the power to prevent disease before it strikes. Vaccination is not just a medical success but a promise of protection, equity, and a healthier future for all.

The World Health Organization estimates that vaccines prevent 3 to 5 million deaths annually, making them one of the safest and most effective public health tools.

Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) offers free vaccines against 12 deadly diseases to over 27 million infants and 30 million pregnant women every year, thanks to the tireless efforts of ASHA, ANM, and nursing workers who reach even the remotest corners.

Yet, challenges persist. Poverty, misinformation, and post-pandemic disruptions still hinder access. Strengthening cold-chain systems, expanding digital platforms like CoWIN, and promoting awareness of essential and adult vaccines are vital next steps.

Adult immunization also needs attention to vaccines against influenza, hepatitis B, HPV, and pneumonia to safeguard lifelong health. Combating vaccine hesitancy through trust and transparency is equally crucial.

As we mark World Immunization Day 2025, let us renew our pledge: no child, adult, or community should be left behind. Every vaccine is a shield of hope — protecting lives and building a resilient India.
