CM Babu reviews proposals with IIT Madras

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced that Andhra Pradesh will soon introduce quantum technology courses to equip the state’s youth with next-generation skills and prepare them for emerging opportunities in quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

The Chief Minister held a detailed review meeting with professionals of IIT Madras at the State Secretariat, during which proposals aimed at strengthening technology education from the school level were discussed. Stressing the need to position Andhra Pradesh as a knowledge hub, Naidu said students must be trained early to take advantage of future technologies.

IIT Madras representatives briefed the Chief Minister on an action plan designed to create awareness about artificial intelligence through digital platforms in Telugu, English and Hindi. The plan proposes a phased rollout over four stages across two years, beginning next year, to familiarise students with AI concepts and applications. The Chief Minister reviewed the proposals and suggested further refinements to align them with the state’s long-term education and innovation goals.

Emphasising inclusivity, Naidu said quantum technology awareness should not be limited to private institutions alone. “Students studying in government schools must also have exposure to quantum technology. From Classes 7, 8 and 9 onwards, students should be introduced to these concepts in a structured manner,” he said. He directed officials to establish computer laboratories in schools in a phased manner and to coordinate with the Union government for necessary support.

The Chief Minister also announced that a Students Partnership Summit will be organised by the end of January 2026, providing a platform for students to showcase their innovations. Such initiatives, he said, would inspire entrepreneurial thinking and help nurture future industrialists and innovators.

Naidu underlined the importance of fully utilising the Centre’s National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) platform to upgrade skills in quantum technologies. He instructed officials to ensure that more than 50,000 technology students receive structured training in quantum skills and said that curriculum design for quantum technology courses should be completed by January 2026. He also called for a review of quantum research initiatives currently being undertaken by various IITs.
