Andhra Pradesh has got special recognition at the national level with the planned steps taken by the state government to reduce anemia among young children, youth, pregnant women and lactating mothers from a six-month-old baby. It stood first in the country in the prevention of anemia in the ranks by the central government in various categories related to the distribution of anemia-reducing syrup and tablets. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reviewed the steps taken by state governments to control anemia during the months of April, May and June (first quarter) of the financial year 2025-26.
Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Telangana occupied the first three positions. State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav congratulated the staff for putting the state at the top at the national level. Out of the six categories, AP has bagged the first position in 5 categories. It was ranked first in the index with a growth of 88 per cent. AP ranked third only in the category of adolescent children in the age group of 10-19 years.
Iron and folic acid syrup was distributed free of cost to 22,99,649 children in the age of 6 to 59 months from April to June in 2025-26 and tablets to 30,35,641 children between the ages of 5-9 years. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been implementing the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) programme since 2018 to prevent anaemia. Syrup bottles are being provided to the mothers through ASHA workers and ANMs for the sake of children.
